Renew. Relax.

With the arrival of spring, many people use this time of year to get rid of the unwanted things that cause stress in their lives such as stubborn weight, clutter, tension, etc. The same is to be said for reducing the amount of toxins being held hostage inside of one’s body. Many people do not realize that a great way to release and eliminate toxins from your body is through massage therapy. When a muscle is stressed, it is deprived of healthy circulation. Inflammation of your muscles and toxins contribute to pain and stress. Not only is massage therapy a great way to de-stress and relax, but it also restores blood flow to the areas of your body that have been deprived from oxygen and nutrients. Massage therapy helps to stimulate circulation and promote chemical detoxification. Here are a few different massage therapy techniques we use in order to do so.

Trigger Point Massage

Trigger points represent small areas of tightness within muscles, creating “knots” from the contracted muscle fibers. A deep-tissue massage along with trigger point therapy helps to loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles, and gets the blood and oxygen circulating properly. Your massage therapist is trained to “de-activate” the trigger points using pressure, which can momentarily seem uncomfortable, but ultimately will relieve the ongoing pain and discomfort caused from the tightened muscle areas.

Classic (Swedish) Massage

Swedish massages are exceptionally helpful with increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, and improving circulation/flexibility while easing tension. Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration/shaking.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage therapy is similar to a Swedish massage except it focuses on the deepest layers of the muscle tissue. It reaches the core of a muscles problematic nature and breaks down scar tissue to begin the regeneration of broken tissue. Once the muscle is loosened, the toxins are released, and blood and oxygen can circulate as they should through one’s body.
