Learn About Choosing The One That’s Right For You

When it comes to massages, there are about a million reasons why you should get one — other than the fact that it feels amazing. Believe it or not, getting a massage has some health major benefits, so much so that we recommend that everyone goes out and gets one… like, right now!

Here are the top reasons massages cure-all:

  1. They ease muscle pain

First and foremost, massages work to increase and improve circulation. Plus, if you’re suffering from chronic back pain, massages have been found just as effective as other treatments, so you might want to give one a go!

  1. They soothe anxiety and depression

Human touch can be so incredibly relaxing and therapeutic that not only can a massage put you physically at ease, but also mentally.

  1. They counteract all that sitting you do

If you’re stuck behind a desk all day, chances are that you’re dealing with some kind of postural stress. If you’re contemplating quitting your job because you can’t take the shoulder, neck, and back pain, try getting a massage first — we promise it’ll work wonders! Massages can counteract the imbalance cause from sitting, which means you can continue working with no worries.

  1. They improve sleep

Tossing and turning at night? Having trouble sleeping? Stop counting sheep and go get a massage! Not only do they encourage a restful slumber, but you’ll experience maximum comfort while you’re at it, too.

  1. They boost immunity

According to Best Health Mag, a study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that massage boosts patients’ white blood cell count — which plays a large role in defending the body from disease.

So, what kind of massage is right for you? Just Melt Medspa has a ton of options for you to choose from!

Shiatsu Massage:

(shi meaning finger and atsu meaning pressure) is a type of massage consisting of finger and palm pressure, stretches, and other massage techniques.

This Japanese style of massage has a very different ‘feel’. The massage does not use massage oil, and it does not even directly touch your skin. Direct pressure with the thumbs, palms, knuckles, forearms, even knees and feet are used to stimulate and relax specific points on the body. Pressure is sometimes applied rhythmically along the length of muscle attachments; where muscles become tendons and attach onto bones. Massage with knowledge of muscle origins and insertions is very effective for overall circulation stimulation and results in dramatic pain relief.

Classic (Swedish) Massage:

Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage.

The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration/shaking.

This style of massage is accomplished by rubbing the muscles in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.

Thai Yoga Massage:

An Eastern modality based on the meridians of Ayurvedic healing. An ancient style that accompanies energy work and stretching in passive/assertive yoga poses for an overall mind/body healing experience.

Performed on a mat with exercise/yoga clothing.

Reflexology Massage:

An ancient form of healing using mapped out body organs and tissues on the hand, ear, and foot to produce the desired effect without working on an area of the body.

May also be performed fully clothed. Also known as zone therapy, is an alternative medicine or pseudoscience involving the physical act of applying pressure to the feet, hands, or ears with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. It is based on a system of zones and reflex areas that they say reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands, with the premise that such work effects a physical change to the body.

Sports Massage:

The best way for an athlete to get warmed up for an event. It uses a rhythmic, fast-paced, resting movement of both joints and muscles along with stretching.

This produces maximum optimal function and response for performing key fundamental tasks of skill in your preferred sport of choice.

Deep Tissue Massage:

This therapy is a branch similar to Swedish massage dedicated to aiding the average working individual or athlete.

It gets to the heart of a muscles problematic nature and breaks down scar tissue to begin the regeneration of injured malfunctioning tissue. The deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).

Deep tissue massage can break up and eliminate scar tissue from previous injuries. A common problem is that stressed muscles can block nutrients and oxygen from getting to where they need to go, and this will cause inflammation that allows toxins to build up in your muscle tissue. Inflammation and toxins contribute to pain and stress. Deep Tissue Massage breaks up and releases the built-up toxins by loosening the muscles. With the toxins released, blood and oxygen can circulate as they should through one’s body.
